Biographical / Historical
German born Emil Georg Conrad von Sauer (1862-1940) studied piano under both Nikolai Rubinstein and Franz Liszt, and is considered by many, including former Curtis director Josef Hofmann, to be one of the great piano virtuosos. In addition to his performance career (which he sustained until the year of his death), Sauer was also a piano instructor, teaching at the Meisterschule für Klavierspiel at the Vienna Academy.
