Biographical / Historical
Ralph McLlane was an instructor at Curtis and principal clarinetist of the Philadelphia Orchestra from 1943 until his death in 1951. Vladimir Sokoloff studied accompanying and chamber music at the Curtis Institute of Music (1929-38) and was a member of the faculty (1938-1993), where he taught vocal repertoire, accompanying, and chamber music, and directed the concert division.

This rehearsal recording was made in preparation for the Philadelphia Orchestra's premiere of Aaron Copland's Clarinet Concerto at Carnegie Hall on 28 November 1950.
