Biography
Andrei Abramenkov (July 7, 1935 - October 3, 2023) was a Russian violinist and member of the renowned Borodin Quartet. Raised in a musical family, his father was a violinist at the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra and his mother was a pianist. Performing in the Bolshoi Choir as a child, he then studied violin at the Central School of Moscow and the Moscow Conservatory. He performed with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra until he joined the Borodin Quartet in 1974. Internationally recognized, the quartet played music of Borodin, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Haydn, Dvořák and Brahms. Abramenkov retired in 2011.
